DevPower Web Version Check Control Version History

Version 4.0.0 (01-Nov-01)

  • Added support for parsing XML files.
  • The version number comparison routine has been re-written to intelligently compare versions numbers. Previous versions simply did a text comparison between the CurrentVersion property and the version string downloaded and would raise the UpdateAvailable event unnecessarily.
  • Added robust internal error handling.

Version 3.1.0 (18-Jan-99)

  • Released Visual Basic 6.0 based version (fully compatible with VB5 previous version).

Version 3.1.0 (04-Dec-98)

  • Added UpdateUnavailable event for when the version found is the same as that being checked for.

Version 3.0.0 (11-Oct-98)

  • Internal re-working to remove dependancy upon Microsoft Internet Transfer Control, so there is just one OCX to deploy.

Version 2.0.0 (13-Apr-98)

  • Second release - now has more reliable file parsing and the ability to include an abstract and custom data in the file. The abstract allows you to display a description of the changes in your new release to your user and the more useful custom data can contain anything useful (designed for use within your application). Also, a new property, AutoLaunchBrowser allows you to let the control automatically launch the users web browser if a new version is found, starting at the URL specified in your version file.
  • The ClassID for the control has had to change because of changes to the properties, events and methods. The UpdateAvailable event now passes two extra parameters - Abstract (allowing you to display a description of changes in your new version) and CustomData that contains custom information for your use. The new control is, however, "Project Compatible" with version 1.x, meaning that the upgrade should be fairly simple. The changes to existing parameters were necessary for using the control within environments that don't handle ActiveX controls as well as Internet Explorer or Visual Basic and should now make the programming interface more logical for Visual C++ users. For web page usage, the new ClassID is 6AEA6398-D2D4-11D1-A87F-B707CAC1095E

Version 1.0.2 (02-Jan-98)

  • First public release with "Safe for Scripting" Interface.
